Become an Junior Editor, Author or Specialist for the Pocket Pulmonary Medicine
Vacancy: Junior Editors, Authors and Specialists – pocket Pulmonary Medicine
Flexible and from home!
Would you like to contribute to a new English-language Pocket Pulmonary Medicine published by Compendium Medicine?
Junior Editors: young doctors or final-year medical students who coordinate the process: liaising with the editorial team, authors, advisory board, and supervisors, while ensuring deadlines are met efficiently and on schedule.
Authors: junior doctors or final-year medical students, residents, and PhD candidates – contributing content to the new pocket edition. If you enjoy writing concise, clear medical texts and are a (future) healthcare professional, we would love to hear from you.
Specialists / Sounding Board Members: residents, pulmonoligists and specialists who are willing to share their expertise by reviewing and contributing to the content. No formal application is required for this role—simply send us a short message via LinkedIn or email (contact@compendiumgeneeskunde.nl).
The role
Junior Editor: Junior Editors are young doctors or final-year medical students who coordinate the development process of Pocket Pulmonary Medicine. They act as the central link between the editorial team, authors, advisory board, and supervisors, ensuring smooth communication and efficient progress across all chapters.
They monitor timelines, support alignment between contributors, and help keep the project on track from concept to publication.
Time commitment: Approximately 4 hours per week per Junior Editor (based on two Junior Editors). The workload is phase-based: some rounds will require a higher time investment, often exceeding this average. In between these periods, the workload will be lighter and more flexible.
Authors
Authors are junior doctors or final-year medical students, residents, and PhD candidates contributing to the new English-language pocket edition. They work closely with the editorial team and medical specialists to develop high-quality medical content.
The work involves rewriting existing material and creating new content in English, with a strong focus on concise, clear, and visually accessible medical writing. If you enjoy writing structured and practical medical texts and are a (future) healthcare professional, we would love to hear from you.
Time commitment: The average workload is approximately 4 hours per week over the course of the project. However, the workload is phase-based: the initial writing phase (first 8 weeks) and subsequent revision rounds will require a higher time investment, often exceeding this average. Between these peak phases, workload will be lighter and more flexible.
Specialists / Sounding Board Members
Specialists, including residents, pulmonologists, and experienced clinicians, support the project by reviewing and contributing to content, ensuring clinical accuracy and relevance. Their involvement is mainly consultative, focusing on review cycles rather than continuous input.
Time commitment: This is a flexible, non-continuous role with involvement primarily during review phases. The workload is therefore best understood as periodic and peak-based rather than weekly.
No formal application is required—interested specialists can simply reach out via LinkedIn or email.
Timeline
The project is planned to begin in mid-2026, with a total duration of approximately one year. The exact start date may be adjusted depending on planning and onboarding.
The work is fully remote and flexible, allowing contributors to organize their time independently.
Participants are expected to attend three in-person or hybrid Quarter Days, which are key collaborative moments for chapter development and project alignment:
- 12 September 2026
- 28 November 2026
- 7 March 2027

About Compendium Medicine
We (Romée and Veerle, founders of Compendium Medicine) met during medical school at VU University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We soon began discussing the abundance of medical textbooks and started wondering what could be done differently. We were faced with so much study material that it was often difficult to keep track of the bigger picture. This inspired us to make a change for other medical students and help them regain this overview.
